E-gold Security.

I hear so many reports of people having their e-gold accounts hacked and then they bad mouth e-gold when it is their fault.

Unless you slipped up got caught with a phishing site there is absolutely no reason your account can be hacked if you have carried out the basic security steps available to you.

Point 1
Use a password that is at least 15 long and is not a name or phrase.
3RHiHHdiGmi9Lx7 is an example of a good code to use.
If you use a name or phrase then you might as well use pleasehackmyaccount because that is exactly what will happen they will figure it out.

Point 2
E-gold has Account Sentinel to protect you

Set the Detect IP address change at least Medium.
Select Detect browser change
Set Home Work Mode to Disabled.
Set Automation Access to Blocked (if you are not using the e-gold shopping cart option on your site)
Set Phone access to Blocked.

Point 3
Many are not aware that you can actually set up more than one email address in your account.
the reason to do this is that when your account is accessed and the system sees a change in the IP Address or Browser it will sent out a pin code to the registered address.
This pin code is valid for just 15 minutes. Having two email addresses will cover three eventualities.

1 You tried to access your account but the code didn't arrive at one email address so you can always check the other one for the pin code.

2 Someone else tried to access your account so the different IP address triggered the system to send a pin code and you will know that an attempt has been made to access your account and you can go and make sure they didn't get in, and change your password as the one trying it must have known it for it to trigger sending the pin code.

3. Someone has hijacked your main email address and locked you out so that you would not get the pin code email and they could.
However if you have a second account registered as well you will still get the email so alerting you to the access attempt.

To use 2 email addresses in you profile in the email box enter the two as follows
myemail1@mydomain.com, myemail2@myotherdomain.com

Note the two email addresses are separated by one comma followed by one space.
Also make sure they are two completely different email addresses.

Point 4
Never leave any emails on a server that contain any financial, login/password, or personal information.

Point 5
If you are a member of a program that uses e-gold and they ask you to post when you get paid and you want to do so to prove they do pay, don't post the amount you were paid. Hackers watch forums like that and collect information and as soon as they see some one post they made $100, 500, $1000 and so on they will be right onto it to try hacking the persons account and stealing the money.

Point 6
Don't use the same password for programs, and financial sites. You should have a different password for each financial site.
And don't use the excuse "I cant remember one password that long never mind several".
If you get Roboform the free version allows I think it is 30 different ones the paid version is unlimited.
You set up your important site userids and passwords in roboform and password protect them with a master password.
I have used Roboform for over 6 years and it was the best security investment I ever made.

If you use these methods and NEVER EVER click on an email link then your account should not get hacked.

There is naturally not a 100% guarantee because if someone is determined to hack your account they will do it.
All you can do is make it as difficult as possible for the hacker and make the SOB work for it. If its going to take them too long the hacker will usually give up.
