When your traveling in the outside lane on a major 3 lane
freeway (I-75) doing 90 and you see your exit is coming up...
it takes a bit of maneuvering to get over into the proper lane
to exit.

At this particular exit you don't have to stop, it just connects
to a divided highway. As I am coasting or rather trying to
slow down, I meet up with a cop coming my way.

Dang... don't you hate when that happens?

Well sure enough he whips around and flips on his flashers.
All I could think of was I was sure glad he was not out on
I-75 when I was doing 90.

As he was approaching my car I was wondering if I should
mention my "IN". I decided to keep quite and to let him do the
talking.

He asked me if I knew how fast I was going and since I was
not sure exactly where during my coast did he clock me.
I answered as if we were playing 50 questions....
I asked... 50?

He said, "NO, you were doing 65!"
I said... "Well ok, let's not quibble."

Some of the stuff I come up with, I even amaze myself.

He presented me with my ticket and I said....Just a minute,
do you know my brother?

He said, "well who is your brother?" I proceeded to tell him that
he is a State Trooper and travels all over the state teaching,
City, County, State... all are offered the class. I said he looks
just like me only he has white hair and a mustache.

Sure enough, my cop had recently attended his training.
He said, "now why didn't you mention something about this
BEFORE I wrote you your ticket."

YUP!!! I have used that line a lot and I have gotten out of many.
Not sure why I didn't use it this day.

This was many years ago and to this day I am not sure why I went
to court and didn't just pay the fee. But I went to that packed court
room and waited my turn.

There were 5 cases before mine, ALL WERE DISMISSED!
Not one cop showed up. Could I be so lucky?
NOPE.. the 6th case was the charm.
My cop was there. $80.00 Fine

The cop and I chit chatted afterwards. He took me around and
introduced me to some of the other cops that had also attended
my brothers training.

I did ask him how I got so lucky that out of 6 cases I had the only
cop that showed up!

He told me I was just lucky!
