Why is a newspaper ten times more interesting when somebody across the table is reading it?

LOL...this is a very interesting question! One that I've not answered before. I believe a newspaper is more interesting when someone else is reading it because it's human nature to "want what someone else has." It always seems to be more appealing when someone else has it. Have you heard: "The grass is greener on the other side?" LOL Hope this satisfies your question.

I agree with Maureen. It's always a nag if you can't have something immediately.

I guess it's that saying: The grass always appears greener on the other side of the fence - in this case across the table.

Because you see something that catches your eye and you just have to read it all.
