Yeah this is really a loaded question... it really depends on the specific SEO Technique or Method. But a good place to start is checking with Google Webmater Tools Search Console. Check for errors or use one of the many tools available on the search console.

Optimising your website for the search engines is no guarantee that your website will rank on the first page in Google. All you're doing is increasing the odds of it doing so.

There are many factors to consider when doing SEO. I suggest you take a closer look at the keyword phrases you're trying to rank for and look at your competition. There will be some phrases that will literally take years to rank (if at all).
