What do you think it means when God said "love your neighbor as yourself"?

How interesting that the second most important commandment is taken to mean the same as the 'Golden Rule'....The instruction to Love your neighbor as you love yourself, means I need to love others, without expecting them to return my good treatment and REGARDLESS of their response to me, in other words, regardless of whether I practice the golden rule. You know we seem to have the answer for that, but I have been seeing that is not the truth. We speak it, but for me there is another question that haunts me. It is if we truly believe that the verse means treat others as we want to be treated. Then how much does that verse truly mean to us? Simply posing a question, because if we truly believed that, then most people would treat others differently. It pretty straight forward treat others that you would treated. Walk in the Love of Jesus He was a servant to all and He wants us to love and serve others as He did.

I'm pretty sure the message is to be taken in the context of 'the Golden Rule'. As Bill and Ted would say: Be excellent to each other! :)

We are all God's children and one trait should be is to love others.

You are divine; your neighbour is divine; all ONE with God; and ALL is GOOD.

It means that we are all one, separation is only an illusion, so while loving neighbours as yourself you also recognize that you are not above others (or inferior, like some distorted religious practices of the past sugested) and we all share the same dignity and value.

It means to treat others as you would yourself.

Treat other as you want other to treat you, Love one another the way I[Jesus] love others.
