What are the differences & similarities between Softball & Baseball?

Many people mistakenly assume that because the fields and the equipment look the similar, baseball and softball are the same sport. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are several differences, aside from the size of the ball, that set the two sports apart.

A difference is pitching. In softball, the pitcher is closer to the batter and pitches underhanded while in baseball, the pitcher is farther away and pitches upperhanded. The rules are the same and the games are played the same way. ... Baseball is played with a 9″ ball and the ball is pitched overhand from a sloped mound.
