This depends on where you get the real writing jobs. I earn a reasonable income as a freelance writer and I get most of my jobs from writing sites such as oDesk. If a writing site asks for money before you can earn it through it, run very fast. If a site can help you make money writing, it will be confident enough to get a cut from the real money you ultimately earn from real writing jobs.
