Born in Palanpur of Gujarat in 1907, Rashmi Mehta's father late Shri Kirtilal Manilal Mehta (1907-1993) was a highly successful, giant, and globally renowned businessman of India, especially in the sector of diamonds and colored gems. He served in the gems and diamond industry for about 75 years, and was regarded as being the largest dealer of diamonds in entire India in his times. After starting his first company named 'Beautiful Diamonds' in 1944 in Mumbai, he expanded his business of cutting, polishing, and trading of diamonds to countries worldwide, especially Belgium (Antwerp), Hong Kong, Israel (Tel Aviv), US (New York), and other eminent centers of diamond trading, by the year 1973. This ace businessman father of now globally famous Rashmi Mehta, had received many magnificent awards from time to time from Indian Government, the Nawab of Palanpur, the President of Israel, and the King of Belgium. Again, in the year 1978, he established a benevolent public trust named as the 'Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust (LKMMT).
