The Toyota Highlander, also known as the Toyota Kluger, was first introduced in 2000. The Highlander is known for its reliability, exquisite appearance, off-road capabilities, and fuel efficiency with several safety features for the security and convenience of the occupants. The XU70 series is the latest and fourth-generation Toyota Highlander which was revealed on 17 April 2019 and built in TNGA: GA-K platform.

4 Pros

Big Cabin

The latest Toyota Highlander offers comfortable cabin space that can accommodate seven to eight passengers and offers plenty of lumbar support. The front and second rows have head, shoulder, and leg room. Although the third row is perfectly suited for children, the cargo space creates 40.6 cu-ft. space, and can extend up to 73.3 cu-ft. when folding the second-row seats.

Several Standard Features

The Toyota Highlander comes fitted with the Toyota Safety Sense package which includes adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, and the pre-collision system. The forward collision detection comes with automatic emergency braking and a rearview camera as well as optional safety features such as the 360-degree camera.

Good Fuel Economy

The Toyota Highlander manages to be one of the very fuel-efficient SUVs with around 20 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The V6 engine offers 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. While the V6 with all-wheel drive can get 22 mpg combined.

A Powerful V6 Engine

The V6 engine of the Toyota Highlander gives a lot of power to the car with a 3.5L 2GR-FKS V6 petrol engine producing 295 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque. The V6 with an all-wheel-drive system gives a driving performance perfect for any off-roading adventure.

5 Cons

Average Base Engine

The standard engine is a 2.7L T24A-FTS straight-4 petrol engine producing 185 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, with 6-speed automatic transmission. It is nowhere near the amount of power and smoothness of the 8-speed, which you can get with the V6 engine.

Controls are Hard to Reach

The Toyota Highlander comes with a comfortable and luxurious cabin but some of the controls on the touchscreen display monitor and along the dash might be hard to reach.

Cramped Third Row

The Toyota Highlander has limited space in the third row fitted only for small teens. There are three available seatbelts in the back, but not as plentiful as in the front and second row.

No Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Features

The Toyota Highlander does not come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto app system. Though Toyota offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in some of its models, it still needs more improvement to keep pace with its rivals.

Jerky Transmission

The Toyota Highlander is a capable off-roader with an eight-speed transmission, it still has a problem when it comes to choosing a gear to be in and it constantly changes, making the engine go into higher revs all of a sudden. The eight-speed transmission floundered when accelerating from a stop and it became jerky.

Finally

The Toyota Highlander 2019 is one of the most popular mid-size crossover SUVs with outstanding reliability, powerful engines, and off-road capabilities. You can check the Toyota Highlander stocklist for more available and affordable models.
