You Have the Potential to Become a Cybersecurity Data Scientist!

by Ankita Garg Software Developer
I ended up becoming a cybersecurity data scientist by accident. I give credits to best cyber security courses online which helped me a lot to get an understanding. I was nearing the end of my PhD degree when I discovered that my specialist interests in military themes were not a good fit for the employment market. So I applied my statistics, policy analysis, and programming talents to the realm of cybersecurity and became a cybersecurity data scientist, first at an R&D lab and then at a company.

You can choose to work as a cybersecurity data scientist on purpose. It doesn't have to happen by chance. Indeed, according to one estimate based on 2019 U.S. employment market statistics, there were over 30,000 job opportunities for applicants with both data science and cybersecurity abilities. So, if you're a data scientist with even a passing interest in cybersecurity and a willingness to learn, there's almost certainly a place for you out there.

Naturally, I expect data scientists to be concerned about exploring this notion. I've addressed four of them below, but a session I'll be presenting at the Open Data Science Conference East in 2022 will cover even more and related themes.

Employers seeking cybersecurity data scientists, according to current job market information, prefer data scientists with cybersecurity experience over cybersecurity professionals with data science skills. So, instead of fretting, learn about cybersecurity.
