WWE Champions Landscape Changed After WWE MITB

While wholesome changes are rarely done, it is a rare occasion if no title changes hands on a WWE PPV. WWE Money in the Bank 2020 was once such PPV where every contested title was retained. But within two days of that event, we now have two new WWE Champions.

First, it was WWE RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch who announced her pregnancy on Monday. With the child being due in December, she will out of WWE for at least a year now. Hence, she was required to relinquish the title that she held for 399 days- a record for RAW Women's title.

But the title did not remain vacant for so long. When Becky came out on RAW this week, she was carrying the MITB briefcase instead of her title belt. The reason for this switch became clear later when she revealed that Asuka has won the RAW Women's title along with the Money in the Bank briefcase.

On Tuesday night, Sami Zayn was stripped-off his WWE Intercontinental Championship. Sami has been away from WWE ever since his win against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36. WWE has provided an option for its superstars to not be part of the show until the COVID-19 situation gets under control.

And Zayn has taken advantage of this precedent. But WWE was not able to afford the champion off the television for so long and needed to make this decision. A tournament is announced starting from this Friday's SmackDown to crown the new champion. But it will be interesting to see who WWE chooses for the spot.

Daniel Bryan was involved in the title scene earlier and could be a perfect transitional champion. Baron Corbin as a heel champion is also an option. If the feud between Sheamus and Jeff Hadry could get the title in the picture, it's credibility will only increase. Other than that, the SmackDown roster looks thin.
