Windows 10 update: Microsoft fixes issues on Intel and Toshiba SSDs
by Maria William Software DeveloperMicrosoft recently released its second
new build of Windows 10 (April 2018) with six fixes and a resolution for the
boot problems that are affecting PCs with Intel and Toshiba SSDs.
Users with an Intel SSD 600p or Pro 600p
were before asked to stay away from the updates, until and unless unspecified
issued doesn’t get resolved. But they are now resolved and the users can
proceed with the updates downloading.
KB4100403, the new update makes the
Windows 10 April 2018 Update or Windows 10 version 1803 to OS Build
17134.81. The users can check for the
updates in ‘Settings’ or get the package from Microsoft Update Catalog.
Microsoft notes that KB4100403 gets
resolved as the issues which were troubling certain Intel SSDs which used to
stick on UEFI screen or stop working when the users try to upgrade to the
version of 1803.
Now, Microsoft is asking its average
users to wait until the release of version 1803 for some device models.
Moreover, the advanced users from 25th May can manually obtain 1803
version via, Settings, at the same time Intel SSD issues will be fixed.
The Toshiba SSD issues are little
different and the upgrade version 1803 has resulted in certain SSDs with lower
battery life.
Toshiba XG4 Series, Toshiba XG5 Series,
or Toshiba BG3 Series SSDs users were advised by the Microsoft to wait till they
offer the update after the upcoming June Patch.
The advanced users can get the updates manually from the ‘Settings’
section along with the fix.
No doubt, the upgrade version 1803 has
brought many new features and security hardening but it wasn’t smooth
functioning for some early adopters.
Now, in this very week users have
reported that they have been facing issues like black screen and faded icons
issues while upgrading. Microsoft also needs to fix an issue which freezes the
devices while using Chrome.
Microsoft has also started blocking now some
of the Dell Alienware devices from getting installed the 1803 versions because
of the incompatible issue which is causing the devices to display a black
screen after getting a restart from the battery-saver mode.
The same problem started arising on the
laptops with the discrete GPU (dGPU) while getting connected to display.
KB4100403 may not address the Alienware
dGPU issue but it does fix issues which may cause Windows Hello enrollment to fail certain hardware that contains
dGPUs.
Microsoft fixes a bug that causes Edge or other apps
to stop responding while creating a new audio endpoint such as Speakers or
Headphones at the time of audio or video playback get started.
There are also issues got solved for Internet Explorer
as well as time zone information fixes.
