Window Cleaning - How To Do It The Right Way
The sunlight coming through your window will probably improve your mood in the morning. And in order for the light to enter the room easily in the morning, you need your windows clean. But window cleaning isn't the favourite activity of women. However, there are certain hints which can help you do your house cleaning effortlessly. One of those hints is to choose the right time for cleaning - cloudy, or cool weather. In sunny weather the windows dry faster and often water smudges remain. Also, there is a greater chance you won't see all stains under the blazing rays of the sun.
So if you want your window cleaning done properly, here you can find out how.)
Joinery Cleaning
You should start the cleaning from the window sills because the joinery collects a lot of dust and dirt. PVC joinery should be cleaned with liquid non-abrasive detergents made for cleaning plastic. If you have varnished or oil painted wooden frames, then you should pay attention to the composition of the cleaning product. It should not contain acid or solvent that could damage the coating. Baking soda is not recommended either because it makes the paint yellow and cracks the wood. You must choose detergents created especially for wooden surfaces. They will clean the treated material in depth because they are based on natural soap and beeswax which creates a protective layer.
Glass Cleaning
Paper towels and newspapers are a thing of the past. You can get a great result, but unfortunately, you must put too much effort into cleaning, especially if the windows are tall.
Other methods are:
- Microfibre towels - You will need three pieces: one to apply the cleaning solution, another to remove the dirt, and a third for the final polishing. The advantage of fabric made of microfibre is that it perfectly absorbs moisture and greatly eases cleaning. Suede and silk fabrics are recommended for the final glaze.
- A wiper - A very convenient device. It's equipped with a sponge on one side and a rubber band on the other. With a little training you can achieve brilliant results. The basic rules for operating it are:
- Wash the windows with a sponge;
- Take off the dirt with vertical movements of the wiper;
- Then, with horizontal movements clean and dry glass.
This is a tricky way of window cleaning. In addition, you can use a dry microfibre cloth for polishing. This will remove even the thinnest lines and drops of water.
- Arranging for window cleaners to come over if your windows are big and high. That way you'll avoid the risk of falling down. Also, if you live in a very polluted area and don't have time for regular window cleaning, then you should really consider that option. I live in the industrial zone in Perth and I made an experiment. If I wash my windows on Sunday, the next Friday there is no trace of cleanliness. So it's not worth my efforts.
Don't forget that your health is your top priority. Yes, your house should be clean, but you're not a window cleaner and this is not your profession. In that cases, you should be rational and take the logical decision.
