Tips for calling provider because of problems with wifi
Over a third of the members of our internet panel have had to deal with a slow or hesitant Wi-Fi network in the past year. And that often in several rooms. They tried to solve everything and by far the most successful turned out to be calling the customer service from the internet provider.
Among the complaining consumers, the helpdesk repaired the Wi-Fi complaints entirely (43%) or partially (37%). So calling from your provider helps. It is striking that half of the complaints were solved because the provider exchanged the 'old' modem / router for a new one.
Ziggo, KPN and T-Mobile
Providers Ziggo, KPN and T-Mobile have a so-called Wi-Fi service for customers with promises and conditions. At KPN and T-Mobile the wifi service is free for new and existing customers. At Ziggo, existing customers have to pay for it.
Prices and numbers of Wi-Fi amplifiers differ:
Ziggo Power Promise
Promised speed in every room: 20 Mbit / s.
Wi-Fi amplifier existing customer: € 59 (€ 99 for the wireless version); Wi-Fi amplifier new customer: free.
Home mechanic: € 40 for 1st hour, mechanic new subscriber for free.
KPN Wifi Tuner
Promised speed in every room: 20 Mbit / s.
Wi-Fi subscriber current subscriber: free (max 2); Wi-Fi amplifier new subscriber: free (max 2).
Home mechanic: free; mechanic new subscriber: free
T-Mobile Home Wifi Service
Promised speed in every room: 10 Mbit / s.
Wi-Fi subscriber current subscriber: free (max 1), Wi-Fi amplifier new subscriber: free (max 1).
Home mechanic: free, mechanic new subscriber free.
Other providers do not yet offer WiFi service with promises and conditions. They do offer telephone and online help with, for example, a roadmap, frequently asked questions and videos. Enabling a technician is possible with most providers, but that is usually not free.
Tips for calling provider because of problems with wifi
Every year you pay hundreds of euros for subscription costs for internet and TV. You can expect a well-functioning Wi-Fi network from your provider's modem / router for this. And also help from the provider to get that done.
Contact your provider's helpdesk and ask for a solution.
Does the provider want to send a technician? Ask if the technician's costs will expire if the modem / router turns out to be too old and needs to be replaced with a new one.
For a good Wi-Fi network, there is usually no need for a faster internet subscription. Often an extra wifi transmitter or a new modem / router.
