Why You Need Car Insurance

by Dave Adamson Freelance Writer
If you are a safe driver, you might wonder why you need car insurance. After all, it can seem like a needless expense if you never get in an accident. In reality, insurance helps you to follow the driving laws of your state, protects you against having to pay for a new vehicle and can even help others if you cause an accident.

The primary reason that you need car insurance is that your state requires you to have it. Insurance is a requirement in the United States, and failure to carry auto insurance can actually lead to a suspended license and/or heavy fines. If you want to keep your car on the road legally, you need to make sure that you have the right kind of insurance. State minimum coverage is actually relatively inexpensive, but it can help you to comply with the letter of the law. This will allow you to keep driving safely without worrying about what might happen if you get pulled over.

Your Car is Expensive

One of the best reasons to keep your insurance policy up to date is because your car is expensive. Think about the last time you went to get anything done on your car - was it cheap? If you have the same problems as most, it probably was not. It is incredibly hard to replace a part of a car when something goes wrong in the natural course of events. Imagine, though, that you had to replace everything on your own. Most people do not have enough cash on hand to replace a car outright, something that insurance can help with if you are involved in an accident. If you think it would be hard to replace your car at a moment's notice, you need insurance.

Keeping Others Safe

One of the major reasons that individuals are required to carry auto insurance is that it helps to pay the bills of those who get injured in an accident. If you end up totalling the car of another person, you become liable for that damage. In many cases, you also become liable for any injuries sustained in that accident. In order for that other party to pay his or her bills, someone has to be insured. This form of insurance helps to make sure that a single car accident will not necessarily ruin an innocent party's finances, and that all involved can walk away and continue one with their lives.

Always remember to get the coverage that you need for your vehicle. Doing so will help you to stay on the road legally and protect everyone else on the road. With the right insurance, you can feel safe whenever you are in your vehicle.
