You wouldn’t want to waste time during summer doing nothing. Instead, it will be more useful joining one of the summer volunteer programs where you will use most of your time in meaningful endeavors. Over the past few years, the preponderance of millennials are taking up volunteering projects in different parts of the world, but majorly third world nations. This has gone a long way into effectively changing the lives for the underprivileged in society.

Explore New Areas of the World

Volunteering is not just a one sided affair. In fact, this is a coin that has two sides. To begin with, you will get the chance to do good for others, while still getting the chance to explore a new country during your Honduras mission trip for instance. Being in the company of like-minded fellows during such trips is one of the most amazing experiences you will ever encounter.

Social Skills and Social Responsibility

Today, if you put a group of high school or college students in one room, they are more likely to revert their attention to personal phones and start chatting with friends on the digital platform. This is just but an example that the social skills which were once common are now slowly fading away.

With the summer volunteer programs, however, they are very good in developing one’s social skills. Isn’t it true that millennials are mostly social on the digital platform? Well, while that is a new societal dispensation, it is crucial to develop the social skills of high school and college students. It is also the best way to train them on social responsibility and being a part of the society.

Learn New Experiences in Life

As a high school student, you will not volunteer in one of the third world nations with friends from other areas and not end up socializing. If you choose to volunteer in Latin America, for example, this is a great way to learn new cultures, and probably experience life in a whole new way. Many students that have participated in volunteer programs for the underprivileged have had their approach to life completely transformed.

When you look at peers who do not have schools to attend, and are only exposed to a life of violence, crime, gangs and drugs, you begin to appreciate the many opportunities in your country. Many will not believe in what they have until they meet worse situations to theirs.
