Why Use an Automated PST to Thunderbird Converter?
PST to
Thunderbird converter - Thunderbird cannot import a standalone .pst file. Most import tools, and
Thunderbird, require that a compatible version of Outlook be installed on the
PC being used to import Microsoft Outlook Data Files. In order to convert PST to Thunderbird,
Outlook must be the default mail client. Mail import from Outlook works by
using the Outlook program to source the emails, not the underlying .pst file.
Note that Thunderbird is a 32-bit program, so it can't import from a 64-bit
version of Outlook.
Want to
convert your emails from Microsoft Outlook to Thunderbird by using PST to
Thunderbird Converter tool?
1.Find
your local .pst files - Outlook will store your .pst files somewhere in
the application data folder for your Windows user: see the Microsoft Office
site for the locations for Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, and Outlook 2013 for example. You will probably
have at least two mail files, both of which will need to be imported into
Thunderbird.
2. Convert your emails from the .pst to .eml files – Further to convert
PST to Thunderbird, download, install and run PST Walker. In PST Walker select the .pst file to
open. Next click the File->Export menu to convert .pst file to .eml
files.
3. Import
.eml files into Thunderbirds - To convert PST to Thunderbird, in Thunderbird open the Tools -> Add-ons tab, search for the ImportExportTools add-on, and install it.
Once you have installed the add-on, inside Thunderbird creates a temporary
folder called "Outlook Import" under the "Local Folders"
directory.
Finally using the PST to Thunderbird converter you
need to right click the "Outlook Import" folder in Thunderbird and
choose the following menu path:
import/export –> import all eml files from a directory –> also from its
subdirectories
In the dialog, to convert PST to
Thunderbird, choose the folder you exported all the .pst emails. It may
take a while to import all your messages.
You will now have to repeat this process to convert PST to Thunderbird.
