Tourists are of great value and importance to India and for any country. This is because these tourists bring tourism to India and help grow our tourism industry.

 

What is Tourism?

 

Tourism is a very unique and interesting industry. It is interesting because primarily it is not categorized as industry as such, yet it is so vital and important for a country as it brings tremendous economic value, benefits and advantages for a country.

 

So, what is Tourism? How do we define Tourism? As we all know it is about traveling to new and different places. As per UNWTO’s definition it is traveling to a new places which are not the usual environment of a traveler and then staying there for some considerable period of time, and then of course coming back to their native place.

 

What is Tourism Industry?

 

Tourism industry comprises of various industries and several companies within those industries which provide tourism and travel related services and products. Tourism is actually a group of various industries which produce products & services aimed to serve various and all needs of tourists and travelers.

 

What is Tourism value chain?

 

This group or chain of industries which serve tourists is called as the tourism value chain. The primary services or industry which is part of tourism is the travel services which includes all the travel agencies, tour operators both for leisure and business travel. It will also include destination management companies.

 

After this it includes the transportation industry covering air transport, railway transport, and water and land transport companies. The hospitality industry is another key part of tourism as without this it will not be able to serve the tourists and travelers. This includes accommodation covering all the hotels, motels, lodges, bed & breakfast, etc. Closely related to this and part of tourism is food and beverages industry which also becomes part of hospitality.

 

Importance of Tourism

 

But this is not all. Tourism goes beyond its primary value chain and brings revenues for many more industries with its direct and indirect contributions. And this is the most interesting aspect of tourism which increases its economic value for a country many folds.

 

Tourism is an industry provides growth support to so many other industries and therefore for the whole economy and GDP of any country and to India as well. The importance of tourism to the economy of any country is tremendous and unparalleled. It brings so many benefits and advantages for a country, its economy and industries.

 

So, every tourist that comes to India is bringing with him or her growth for our industries, economy and is providing a boost to our GDP growth.
