by Bhanvi Kumari All in one business management software

Being a first-timer attending the model united nation conference can be a very daunting experience? But your mindset is one of the most vital things that can turn any outcome in your favor. When you're going to a model united nation conference you might experience different feelings such as,- "most people are more experienced than I am, nobody is going to listen to me, I can't go on stage and deliver my opinions, other delegates might make fun of me." These are some of the wrong misconceptions that some delegates might get about MUN.

If you have some myths about the Model United Nations conference, we are here to dispel them. In this article, we are discussing and correcting some of the myths that are actually right regarding the MUN conference.

Myth Number One: 100% honesty works.

Some people might think that this may not be true. If you start giving your opinion and perceptions to the chair, other delegates might make fun of you. But do you know that the chairman’s committee job is to ensure that everyone is involved, and the committee includes everyone? The committee is already ready for any kind of situation.

All other delegates will be working together with you to ensure that you're involved in the speeches and, working together, and framing a resolution. Model united nation conference aim in the first place is to be united and be one. So, you don't have to be afraid to stand up, clear your throat and express your views and opinions honestly and confidently.

Myth Number 2:  Every idea can be proven to be a direction changer in a MUN conference.

Some delegates think that every idea they have come up with is radical and can be a game-changer in the issue they are handling. But this may be entirely true!

In fact, some of the direction change ideas that have never been suggested have come up from first timers. So, you must work together in a committee, where you can be involved and put your ideas across. Even if someone objects to your views and opinion, you can either try to convince them or think that you have at least put yourself out there and you weren't silent throughout the conference.

It is essential that after the conference you do not think about what would have happened if you had given your idea to other delegates. It is crucial that you do not have any regrets after coming back from the conference.

Myth Number 3: Any delegate apart from the P5 member country can win an award.

Yes, this is absolutely true. More first-time delegates think they have to be part of the P-5-member country to win an award. But as we have already mentioned, every single country in the model United Nations conference is equal during the session. So, your word and opinion matter as much as a P5 member delegate. You don't have to be disappointed when you don't receive your allocation, and therefore do not quit working on your speech. It is important to remember that no matter where you are from, your ideas will make you stand out.
