Changes in the color of urine are evident but there are certain conditions that make it worth worrying about. One such condition is kidney failure. Why? Because at times, change in the color of urine does signify that your kidneys are in need of medical condition.

Changing in the color of urine frequently is a cause of concern and needs medical attention before the situation goes out of hands. Mild changes like turning from transparent to yellow are normal in cases when you hold back your urine and don’t let it pass.

Usually, color changes like colorless and deep yellow are considered normal but other than the yellow color of urine are dangerous.

The abnormal changes can be identified by the doctor with a deep study and chemical tests. Some certain drugs and medications produce a variety of changes in the color of urine.

But before we discuss the changes in urine, we should discuss the kidneys functioning. Kidneys are the vital organs that purify the blood transferred by heart.
Following are the functions that kidneys perform to keep the human body healthy and fit:

• Kidneys filter out the wastes and toxins out of the body.
• The kidney helps in maintaining the pH balance of blood in the body.
• They are also responsible for maintaining the fluid balance in the body.
• The kidney helps in limiting the formation of RBCs (Red Blood Cells).
• These little beans also help in the formation of insulin in the body to maintain sugar levels in the blood.

Drastic changes in urine can be one of the symptoms of kidney failure. Following will help you in understanding the change of color with understanding the stage and level of seriousness:

• Red color: Usually, this change happens because of urinary tract infection and kidney stones. It signifies blood in urine and may cause pain along. If the urine   passed with the blood but without pain, then it is a major cause of concern as it may indicate another cause of concern that is cancer.
• Orange urine: This is the change that is indicating the loss of functioning of the organs, kidneys, and liver both.
• Cloudy or frothy urine: This is the condition, when you are suffering from one of the kidneys disorders; Proteinuria. This means your body is releasing too much   protein that is making your urine look bubbly and foamy.
• Dark Yellow Urine: This can be because you maybe are dehydrated.
• Blue or green colored urine: Sometimes foods are made by adding food color and edible dyes; this can make urine look like blue or green. Also, there are medical   conditions that lead to a change in the color of urine. These diseases can be inherited and cannot be. Diseases like hypercalcemia are a rare inherited disorder, and   urinary tract infection creates changes in the color of urine, blue and green.

What are the causes of change in the color of urine?

The first thought that might come into everyone’s mind is that “I need to drink more water” after observing the changes in the color of urine. To some extent, it is true when you are dehydrated but when you observe that your urine’s color is still the same in color as was before; you need to rush to a doctor for treatment.

There are different things that can be held responsible for changes and can be said that they are the causes:

• Medical conditions
• Food consumption & Food dyes

Medical Conditions:

Some diseases can create changes in the color of urine. Not only the color, at times it changes the texture and smell as well. Following are the medical conditions that affect the changes of urine pattern, color, and odor:

• Proteinuria
• Liver dysfunctioning
• High creatinine level
• Albuminuria
• Uremia
• Urinary infections
• Hypercalcemia
• Hyperkalemia

Food Consumption & Food dye:

At times, consumed food also affects the changes in the color of urine. Foods like beets, blackberries, and rhubarb create changes in the color of urine from colorless or transparent to red or pink. Eating large amounts of fava beans can cause dark brown urine. Eating foods with a lot of food dye can lead to blue or green urine.

What are the risk factors included in the change of color in urine?

Discolored urine that isn't the result of foods or medications could be caused by a medical condition that affects urine color. Factors that put you at risk of medical conditions that can affect urine color include:

• Age: Tumors of the bladder and kidney, which can cause blood in the urine, are more common in older people. Men older than 50 occasionally have urinary blood due to   an enlarged prostate gland.
• Family history: A family history of kidney disease or kidney stones makes it more likely that you'll develop these problems. Both can cause blood in the urine.
• Strenuous exercise: Distance runners are most at risk, but anyone who exercises vigorously can have urinary bleeding.

It is necessary to seek for Ayurvedic kidney disease treatment, right after the diagnosis and reason for this change in color of urine. Make sure you take the necessary treatment so that it should not reach the limit leading to the situation of kidney failure.
