Why is Community Inclusion Important?

It is perfectly natural for everyone to want to be part of a community. You are probably part of several different communities – the neighbourhood where you live, work, and maybe school. Everyone not only wants this, but they need and deserve it. Adults are not the only people who want and need to be included in a community. Children – all children – crave a sense of belonging.

At Interchange, we truly believe that everyone belongs. All people, including those with a disability, deserve to have a good life, and that is our mission – to ensure that it happens. There are many reasons that community inclusion is essential. All of these come together to make everyone, especially West Australians with disabilities, belong.

Network with Others

One of the greatest things we can all do is network – whether it’s to find friends, business connections, or others who can help us with anything we want to do in life. Whether you’re a customer or a volunteer, you can network at social events through disability organisations WA and make your life grow by growing your relationships with others.

Learn from Others

If there’s one thing each person needs to do on a daily basis, it’s learning. When someone isn’t included in a community, their opportunities for learning dwindle. Along with other disability organisations WA, Interchange encourages and supports disabled people to help them not only learn through day-to-day interactions, but through post-school education.

Get Motivated

Who inspires you? Chances are, it’s someone you know. With community inclusion, we are able to find someone who uplifts us, who motivates and encourages us to do something great. Our goals are often shaped by the relationships we have with others, and community inclusion allows those goals to be bigger and better.

Give Yourself Opportunities

If you’re shut off from inclusion with others, opportunities are few and far between. These include opportunities to learn, get needed care, or simply to enjoy a social life. As NDIS registered service providers, Interchange and other organisations work to give opportunities to those who may not have as many.

Enjoy Yourself

Being a part of a community involves social interaction, and that is almost always fun for everyone. Everyone enjoys spending time with others and creating memories. Interchange and other NDIS service providers work towards giving those who are disabled inclusion into the community by letting them have fun with other members of the community.
