Why Incorporating Large Airplane Models to the Bedroom Is a Brilliant Idea

by Nick Jones Art Director
We are all fond of something that truly makes us kids at heart. We all have a favorite theme, a favorite toy, and a favorite item that really makes us happy to have it.

custom aircraft model

For aviation enthusiasts, these are airplane models. Why? Well, it's probably safe to say that all aviation enthusiasts really like these items. They probably have their favorite or meaningful airplanes, custom built by expert model makers. They would display it at home (even at work), boast and tell the amazing story of the specific aircraft to their family, relatives, and friends.

It gives the one collecting it good memories because it serves as a reminder of a sweet dream for someone who has long dreamed of being a pilot, but has taken a different career path; or a small piece that recollects the memories of a pilot’s flying days, including the hardships he had to go through before getting to his remarkable position.

The sky is home

To most people, “the sky is the limit,” but to those who love aviation, “the sky is home.”

Pilots have this wonderful passion and love for flying. It’s indescribable, but Mark Vanhoenacker tried his best to describe his feelings for aviation with Independent. “One of the questions I'm often asked when people find out I'm a pilot is whether flying is something I've always wanted to do,” he started.

That question had always been a curious one for him - because it’s not a common question he got when he was working in the academic or business world. He thought long and hard, and said, “the longer I fly, the more sense this question seems to make. I think it comes from a deep place; from the memory our collective dream of flight.” Vanhoenacker said it’s not really a question of whether he likes to do it or not but as a simple articulation and affirmation of what we’ve all wanted to do.

He added that the fact is that “each airplane we see or fly on represents not much less than a dream come true.” To him, the dream best explains why flying is “one of the easiest and most natural things in the world to love.”

Children have this curious and innocent wonder at airplanes, and Vanhoenacker said it’s better if we take our cue from them. Let’s stare in awe, and watch with our eyes when an airplane flies. Let’s marvel at the enormous abstractions of height and distance because it is remarkable in its own way. This pilot loved flying because we see a different perspective. According to him, whenever an individual flies, the views, “beyond the technological reach of early aviators, are today yours.”

Making your bedroom your personal haven

Now that you’ve read about what it feels to have the “sky as home,” then you’re probably wondering how you can make your bedroom to be like the sky.

This is the exact reason why you should incorporate not just a simple scale model, but large airplane models to your bedroom. Think about it. “The sky is home.” You can turn your whole room into the “sky,” and have a big bed as the airplane. Feel free to look around different furniture shops and see if they’re selling an aviation-themed bed you’d like for your room, or if the options seem more for kids, then you may also ask the help of expert fabricators to craft the airplane, which is large enough to be a queen-sized, or king-sized bed, depending on your preference.

In addition to that, you may add other large airplane models to the decoration by placing some of your items on a shelf (display), creating a customized chandelier (airplane model chandelier), or simply scattering different pieces around the room.

By doing this, you are turning your bedroom into a personal haven, and your (sky) “home.”

Why it’s a brilliant idea

Going by the aviation theme

You are not simply choosing sky colors to have the room painted that way. You are exerting extra effort to make it something more different, more creative, and definitely more interesting. Airplane models are a big statement to every aviation-themed room, so putting some in your bedroom, will make it more “legitimate.”

Displaying your precious models

By incorporating the large airplane models in your bedroom design, you are relieving yourself of the burden, to organize a separate room that will hold your models for display. You won’t be as hassled to keep track of everything in a “collector room.” You get to care for, and put your airplane models in the space of your home where you always are. It really says a lot as to why you’re collecting it in the first place - so you can look at it in awe.

You can always be more creative with how you can place large airplane models to your bedroom. Displaying your models on a shelf is one thing, but actually sleeping in one? That’s just amazing!
