Why Date Nights are Crucial Especially During COVID-19

by Rayanne M. Writer

If you have just begun a new relationship, you are likely still in that period of discovery. There's that rush of excitement when the phone rings or you get a text from that special someone who has just entered your life. Date nights are a thrill as you enjoy every minute of each other's company. If you are in an established relationship, especially one with children, going out on a date may be a foreign concept. You may not be able to remember the last time you put on makeup, dressed up, or did your hair. Your definition of a date may be sitting on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and a movie on television. It is time to change things up in your life, especially now that COVID-19 is putting a strain on households across America.

Date Night is Essential for the Health of Your Relationship

You might think going out on a date is a luxury once you are in a long-term relationship. Think again. Taking time for each other is essential. When you make a commitment to set aside time for each other, you are going to strengthen your relationship. You will become connected on a deeper, emotional level. It can help revive your attraction for one another and most importantly, it can give yourself a reminder about why you fell in love in the first place. The COVID-19 outbreak has been stressful on everyone. Take a break with your partner to find a slice of happiness together. Turn off the news and make COVID-19 a taboo subject. Steer clear of anything negative and make your date night a moment in time that is set apart from everything else. The only thing you should be thinking about is enjoying one another.

Think Outside the Box

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed many restrictions on your life. That doesn't mean you have to give up date night. If you can't go out to a restaurant, cook a special meal or get takeout. Go to the rooftop to get closer to the moon, out in the open air. Find a park, set up a picnic, and surprise your partner with a cute meal that you prepared. Go to a hotel and set the scene for an amazing date night without ever leaving your room. Try to keep to subjects that make you smile and are light. This can be anything from funny memories you have about one another to looking up your daily horoscopes. You can also try making movie night happen at the local drive-in theater. Remember what it was like to sit next to your partner when you couldn't keep your hands to yourselves? If you are forced to stay at home most of the time to take care of children, ask a family member or good friend to watch the little ones for a while. You need time to concentrate on you and your partner.

Breathe New Life into Your Relationship

Date night is more than a movie, a dinner, dancing, or a trip out of town. It is a drive down memory lane and a chance to bond with your significant other. It is a window of opportunity when you spend that quality time with your partner. Fill the empty spaces inside, bask in the light of your other half, and live in the moment. This is your chance to shut out the rest of the world and concentrate on the person who makes your heart beat faster.

Don't Let the COVID-19 Virus Make You Forget How Important Your Partner is to You

All too often, we get caught up in the mundane. We become overwhelmed by responsibilities and worries. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed a heavy burden of pressure on so many of us which makes it an uncertain time filled with fear. Finances may be strained and job shortages are common. You may have been forced to deal with homeschooling when both you and your partner still work. It is enough to make you feel like drowning. Remember that your relationship is your lifeboat so turn to your partner and hold on tight.

Make date night a priority right now. Mark it on your calendar or put it in your planner. Faithfully keep that appointment with the one you love. Nothing else matters more than maintaining a strong relationship. Try being spontaneous right now. The next time your partner walks in the door, turn the lights down low. Play a romantic song. Take your loved one's hand and start to dance in your kitchen. Date night has just begun.
