WHY BRING COWS TO MARS: STEAKS MAN, STEAKS

Vincent Maldia Statement Written Jan 6, 2015
For a permanent human colony on mars or the moon, yes some animals will be brought for food purposes. Priority will be plants because of the greater calories per gram or per square meter so maybe the first colonies will be all vegetarian but eventually some food animals will be brought along. One possibility is some sort of fish that lives in the waste water of the hydroponic gardens, brought along as frozen eggs

William C. Harrison Statement Written December 19, 2016
If, rather than developing life on the surface of Mars, we concentrate on developing human communities beneath the surface of Mars, certainly man along with plants and animals can be brough along. The concept is to develop what I call "solar caves" that provides a control environment for living and cultivating food. These solar caves would be sufficiently large enough for comfortable living, working and growing plants and animals. The caves would be provided with generated oxygen (obtained from the frozen ice) and heat extracted from the sun (the caves would have a glass ceiling for solar over part of the cave for growing plants and animals). Exhaust and other engineering would be built into the facilities with entrances and exits to the surface using appropriate self-contained suits for outside wear. The caves would have to be partition off so that corn and other crops are seporated from animal eating grass. So, yes my friends, you can have your steaks, even on MARS.
