Why A High Street Recruiter Shouldn’t Do Aviation Recruitment?

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

Is the above declaration a controversial one? Yep, but bear us out.

As a leading Aviation Recruiter here at TARCG, we just don’t think that general, ‘high street’ recruitment agencies should ‘do’ aviation. It just doesn’t work. And here’s exactly why.

  1. They Don’t Have Aviation Professionals On Their Payroll

Your average high street recruiter simply has no understanding of the requirements of prospective or current aviation professionals or those seeking to recruit them.

It’s just too specialised a field for them to have a hope of comparing to a seasoned and specialised aviation recruiter with plenty of grizzled aviation professionals on their staff.

  1. They Don’t Understand The Aviation Industry

Does your high street recruiter know a thing about the aviation sector? Do they have tentacles continually seeking out the juiciest opportunities with both airlines and airports? Do they have an instinctive grasp of OEMs, MROs, line and base maintenance, workshops, airfreight and aviation supply and procurement?

No, of course they don’t.

  1. They Don’t Understand Aviation Industry Qualifications

You can’t depend on a high street recruiter to understand the various aviation industry qualifications and the time and effort required to obtain them.

They’ve probably barely even heard, in fact, of such qualifications and categories of training as B1 licences, human factors, EWIS, SFAR, pilot qualifications, cabin crew qualifications... we could go on and on.

  1. They Don’t Understand Aviation Industry Regulations

There’s a vast, complicated and ever-changing web of both UK and European regulations related to the aviation sector, as overseen by such bodies as the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Does your chosen recruiter have an intimate knowledge of many of these regulations and their implications for the current and evolving world of aviation recruitment? Let’s just say that unless you’ve chosen a dedicated aviation recruiter like TARCG, they almost certainly don’t.

  1. They Don’t Understand The Global Culture Of Aviation

Aviation is truly a sector without borders. Its worldwide nature has a distinct effect on its culture compared to other industries, and a good aviation recruiter needs to understand how different cultures interact and respond in different circumstances and contexts.

Clients and candidates for aviation jobs come from every corner of the globe – but has your chosen recruiter truly grasped this? It’s extremely unlikely that any high street recruiter can do so.

  1. But All Is Not Lost...

If you are not an aviation recruiter, don’t worry – you can learn, and particularly benefit from working closely with actual experienced and capable professionals in the field, like ourselves here at TARCG.

When you are seeking the most capable aviation recruiter as either an employer or candidate, we can guide you through what you need to know about hiring or finding a rewarding role in this highly specialised and frequently challenging sector.
