Like most I first started playing RuneScape because most of my peers at the time were playing it. Its being an online game was an important factor in this. That very low entry barrier combined with RuneScape's deep branching and complex nature attracted me back to the game for a long time and is what I wanted to recreate with Melvor Idle."
With Malcolm quite transparent about his ideas when he was interviewed, word soon got to Jagex that a fan was building a game based on their own MMO. One of the staff members flagged the idea to Jagex's management, with director of product management Chris Pfeiffer telling us his team was impressed by "how much was achieved and how closely it is in line to RuneScape."
"The vision for Melvor Idle is in sync with our core beliefs about what makes live games -- it was a perfect match with us" said the executive. "Furthermore the concept of giving someone from our community the chance to be a part of this is a great motivator for all of us in the business."
