What is FSSAI?

FSSAI regulates and monitors the food business operating in India. FSSAI is the abbreviation used for the Food Safety and Standards Authority in India. ü  It is engaged in slaughtering activity of up to 2 big animals or 10 small animals.

In-brief steps for FSSAI License

Following is the procedure to obtain FSSAI License in India:

·   Apply in Form A to the food and safety department.

·   Such application shall be made with the following documents attached:

ü  Photograph of FBO

ü  Premise identity proof such as rent agreement, electricity bill, etc.

ü  COI, MOA & AOA in case of Company

ü  Partnership Deed in case of Partnership Firm

ü  Complete list of food products in which the operator is going to deal

ü  Food management system plan.

·   Department within 7 days of receipt of such an application can on its discretion accept or reject it by stating the reason for the same.

·    The department on accepting the application shall allow the registration certificate.

·     Such Food Business Operator shall always display its License at the place of business during business hours.

Consequences in case of Non-Compliance with FSSAI Guidelines

Licensed food operators need to adhere to the guidelines of the FSS Act, 2006. Food safety officers randomly inspect the food business operator's premises or services. Based on such inspection, food safety officer gives the following remark depending upon the compliant level of such operator:

ü  C for Compliance

ü  NC for Non-Compliant

ü  PC for Partial-Compliant

ü  Not applicable
