When Outsourcing Payroll is Not for You

by Pam K. Affinity Outsourcing Services

As much as payroll outsourcing is the wave of the future, it is not for everyone. There are just companies that would need to settle with in-house instead of outsourced. Some of the reasons are explained:

Flexibility

There might be times when companies would need a flexible cut-off dates for the payroll to be released. There are several reasons for this. When the payroll process is done in-house then it would not be too difficult. If one has hired a payroll service provider there might be additional charges to incur when this is requested.

Accessibility and Ease of Reporting

Some HR manager would need a quick copy of payroll reports. Even if the payroll service provider would send out the reports it may take a bit of time since they are separate from the main company. Also, there might be additional or detailed report needed by the HR manager so it might take a bit of time when the reports are delivered. Then there would be the factor of additional cost that they may also charge for the more detailed reports.

Familiarity with Laws and Taxes

No matter where you look at it, if the HR department has been handling payroll for a period of years, then they are quite familiar on how the government taxes are paid. They are also well-versed with the law so it helps them to decide whether the procedure they do is at par or not. Sometimes, payroll companies would not be as well versed as they would want in the laws and taxes that govern payroll.

As just in a coin, there are always two sides. Payroll outsourcing has its advantages and disadvantages. This is the same as the in-house payroll. So whichever one you would choose, it would entail benefits and risks for your company.
