by Randeep Kumar Medical Adviser

The biggest reason for meeting a bariatric surgeon in Delhi is to get quick help in your weight loss attempts. If surgery is needed and it is the only way to control your waistline then it has to be quick as waiting in the disease progression could impact the benefits of surgery.

A person with Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 30 is considered obese and one with BMI of 40 is declared severely obese and a fit case for surgery. A disheartening fact about standard diet and exercise strategy helps only 5% of the obese population. But you should make an opinion on your condition only after meeting a weight loss surgeon in Delhi.

In order to achieve success in weight loss, you need to maintained the lost weight for at least five years. While diet and exercise seem to be the best option to lose excess weight but it is a protracted struggle that becomes discouraging in the long run. Also, the return of lost weight is highest with standard procedures.

So, exactly what a surgeon does while performing weight loss surgery?

Depending on the type of surgery – three types of surgeries – the process works in three ways.

·         Restricting your food intake. The surgery will prevent you from eating more resulting in reduced intake of calories and weight loss in the long run. It is called malabsorptive procedure.

·         Preventing the digestive system from absorbing the nutrition from food. The objective is to reduce nutritional intake.

·         A combination of the above two surgeries.

Restrictive weight loss procedure

There are two types of restrictive surgeries – gastric banding and vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Both the procedures leave little room in the stomach resulting in less intake of food.

In gastric banding, the surgery creates a small pouch at the end of esophagus. Made with the help of a band, the pouch fills quickly and empties slowly.

In vertical sleeve gastrectomy, a major portion of the stomach, approximately 75%, is removed and rest of the portion is connected to intestine.

Malabsorptive weight loss procedure

It is called gastric bypass and as the name suggests, it allows the food to bypass the stomach. This surgery works as both restrictive and preventive surgeries discussed above. But it is only a bariatric surgeon in Delhi that can suggest the right procedure for your needs.

Check your BMI. If it is 30 then it is an alarming bell for you and if it is 40 then it is time to visit a weight loss surgeon in Delhi and get the right treatment before the excess weight starts taking its toll on your health.
