Wheel Alignment Causes and Remedies

by Steven Cook Firststop Autocentre

The term wheel alignment can be quite misleading for a layman. It does not have anything to do with the tyres of a car rather it is associated with suspension mechanism. When there is a disruption of the suspension within a car then it can lead to other components of the car being knocked-off. This further leads to wheels sitting at inappropriate angles. The basic purpose of a wheel alignment is to ensure wheels are straight so that no problem is experienced by the vehicle.

Causes of misaligned wheels

There are three specific causes of Wheel Alignment Wolverhampton, problem which are given below:

1. Whenever a car hits a pothole or there is a road accident then there is a sudden jarring or heavy impact that is experienced. This leads to misalignment of the wheels.

2. With time certain parts of the car such as suspension spring start to experience some wear and tear. This causes the alignment of the wheels to change.

3. The suspension of the car is designed to work at a specific height. If the height of the vehicle is adjusted without adjustment of the suspension then it leads to a wheel alignment problem.

Symptoms of wheel alignment problem:

If any of the following condition is experienced then a person should get his/her car checked for the wheel alignment problem

1. When there is drifting of the car towards one side while driving.

2. After a turn, the steering of the wheel does not return easily.

3. There are vibrations in the steering wheel

4. Tyres of the vehicle start wearing down abnormally.

5. A squeaking noise is heard from the tyres.

Among all the symptoms discussed above the wearing down of tyres is the most obvious signal that a person’s car needs to be checked for wheel alignment. Car Service Bilston, can help you in fixing such issues.

How is the wheel alignment problem fixed?

Any mechanic cannot fix the problem of wheel alignment. Only an experienced and trained mechanic can solve this problem with the help of a wheel alignment machine. Three major angles require adjustment. These are camber, caster, and toe.

Camber: it is referred to as a tilt concerning the road at which the tyre is sitting. Camber is positive when the top of the wheel starts leaning away from the car. When the top of the wheel starts leaning towards the car then the camber is negative.

Caster: it is associated with the angle that is created by the pivot point of the steering from the front of the vehicle to the back.

Toe: the handling capabilities of the vehicle are greatly affected by the toe settings. It associated with the direction of the tyres and the center line of the vehicle.

Saying prevention is better than cure holds true when it comes wheel alignment problems. A lot of money can be saved if the alignment is regularly checked. It would not only lead to tyres having a long life but also improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.
