Ever wondered where does you poop in the morning at clean bathroom goes? Out of head thinking right? We never ever tried to know about it because it doesn’t matters to us in a larger extent but it has to be going somewhere right? Not recommended to read this prior lunch or dinner.

Let me begin with the moment when you feel like going to toilet and with all sounds hitting the walls of your bathroom, you forget yourself releasing the poop in the commode and in that silence there exists a different kind of pleasure. From commode when the poop gets flushed (flushing is a good habit), the mixture pass through drain pipes entering the sub mains that are laid just below the roads. Likewise the wastage from sub-mains of different areas comes to outfall sewers and these sewers get connected to Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) that function in various parts of the city.

Bangalore has two branches

BBMP of the city has seven city municipal councils, a town municipal council and 110 villages that come under the territory of  Bommanahalli, kengeri, mahadevpura, KR puram, Yelahanka etc. The poop of areas like Indirangar to Nagarbhavi belt has underground sewage lines and the entire wastage traverse underneath and finally reaches STP.

Later, the sewage in STP are separated from plastics and other materials that includes Condom, razer, blades, tablets, food packets etc and which is differentiated from a sewage comprising toilet content. The remaining will be sent to de-nitrification center and the faecal matter is extracted.

In the next stage, we see aeration process where in the scum extracted dries up and used as manure to farmers. The waste water from the sewage which is unfit for any will be discharged to outskirts like Kengeri, koramangala and challaghatta valleys which finally join the river.

Unfortunately the UGD pipes in the city is still under construction and the sewage release in the aeration process that has to be discharged into rivers is entering the city’s lakes, tanks and water bodies. Beyond imagination, the situation is severely adverse resulting the pollution and contamination in the drinking water eventually leading to water borne diseases. Hence, it is a necessary to stop the flow of sewage into water bodies with proper underground pipes installed. As a citizen of Bangalore, it is our responsibility to put pressure on the government to take the necessary actions on the sewage problem.
