What Trims and Features Come Standard on the 2021 Ford Explorer?

by Justin Langer Content Manager

The Ford Explorer 2021 is a three-row, mid-size SUV crossover that seats up to seven people. The interior is roomy, allowing drivers to transport a large amount of luggage or passengers. When all seats are filled, the area behind the third row of seats gives 18.2 cubic feet of room for baggage, sleeping bags, or weekend getaway supplies. When the second and third rows are folded, the Explorer can store up to 87.8 cubic feet of valued antiques, wine country discoveries, or your friend's furnishings for his big uptown move. The Explorer is also 48.1 inches wide at its narrowest point in the cargo hold, featuring changeable carpet/vinyl flooring to best fit the things traveling with you.

2021 Ford Explorer Trims and Features

As previously stated, the 2021 Ford Explorer is available in five model levels. The Hybrid engine is only available on the Limited trim, therefore Hybrid Explorers will have the same features as the gasoline-powered Limited trim, with the addition of a few display settings to assist drivers to track electric motor performance and range.

The base trim is simply referred to as "Explorer," because it offers the essentials. All seats are cloth-upholstered for comfort, including the second-row bench seat, which folds 35/30/35 to suit a range of cargo and passenger combinations. The third-row seat also has a 50/50 split. Standard features include tri-zone automatic temperature control, a power tailgate, an 8-inch touchscreen with satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Ford also includes a powerful CoPilot360 suite of driver assistance technologies as standard, including lane, keep assist with alerts, a rearview camera with its own washer, and a sensor system with brake help while moving in reverse.

For 2021, the XLT grade has received additional amenities, including heated front seats that are also electrically adjustable for maximum comfort. The second-row bench has been replaced with captain's seats, and two USB ports and a console have been added. Roof rack side rails, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and keyless entry and ignition are also standard.

Upgrading to the Limited trim level provides drivers with leather upholstery, vented and heated front seats, and more driver aid systems. The Limited model gains a 360-degree video system, a front detection system, and voice-activated touchscreen navigation. The sound system has been improved to a Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker system, and the second row now has heated seats and window blinds.

The ST specification highlights the sportier side of the 2021 Ford Explorer with paddle shifters, leather-trimmed sports seats, and a heated sport-style steering wheel. The independent front and rear suspension systems have been sport-tuned, and the instrument cluster morphs into a 12.3-inch digital display that can be customized based on your driving preferences. For those who prefer fewer distractions, a minimalistic "Calm" screen is also available.

The Platinum trim is at the top of the line. The interior is clad in soft-touch leather and genuine wood, with front seats that give a choice of five distinct massage settings as you speed around. A twin-panel moonroof delivers breathtaking views of the globe as you go on your trips. Adaptive LED headlights to add to the total grandeur and effortless travel that the most opulent Explorer can provide.
