What Treatments Are Available For Your Scarring After Cosmetic Surgery - RECOVA
by Liz Seyi Digital marketing managerWith scarring being the
body’s natural response to damage – whatever the cause of that damage – it is
important to realise that in the case of any cut or incision in the skin, a
scar will be left behind. It is not possible to completely remove a scar, but
with well-chosen treatments, you can help minimise its appearance while
maximising your comfort and ability to move freely.
So, if you do wish to take
every step possible to make your scars less visible, what scar treatments might you consider?
Silicone gels and
patches
If there is one particular
type of scar treatment that you are likely to consistently hear good things
about, it is silicone. As your skin heals, silicone sheets and gels can help
make your scars flatter and softer, in addition to relieving itching.
The demonstrated clinical
efficacy of silicone – and the fact that the International Advisory Panel on
Scar Management recommends it – should make it unsurprising that we offer so
many silicone-based scar treatments here at RECOVA.
Those include options like Biodermis-Xeragel Scar Gel, Epi-Derm Areola
Circles, and Epi-Derm
Silicone Gel Long Strips, which are all highly
proven products.
Skin camouflage
(make-up)
If you have facial scarring
in particular, you might take an interest in the waterproof make-up pharmacies
sell, that is specifically designed to help cover scars.
The charity Changing Faces
may be able to help you with the use of these products, with their skin
camouflage practitioners determining the best colour match for your skin tone,
and teaching you how to effectively apply the make-up. You can then expect it
to remain in place for two or three days.
Laser therapy
Also sometimes referred to as
‘light therapy’, this treatment targets the blood vessels in excess scar tissue
to help reduce the redness in the given area of scarring.
However, the lack of
long-term research demonstrating laser therapy’s safety and effectiveness,
makes it especially important that if you do choose this route, you only place
your faith in a fully trained medical practitioner who has a good track record
of improving scars.
Dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are substances
that you might arrange to have injected to help “plump up” areas of pitted
scarring. However, these treatments can be expensive, particularly given that
repeated injections are typically needed in order to maintain the desired
effect.
Scar reduction
surgery
It might seem
counterproductive to undergo further surgery if you are concerned about a scar
that arose through surgery in the first place. However, this may be a suitable
solution in some instances, such as if surgery could help make the scarred area
look more natural, or if you have a tight scar that is close to a joint and
therefore currently compromising your movement.
Again, however, it is crucial
to ensure that any plastic surgeon who carries out this surgery on you is fully
trained and has a high level of experience in scar reduction surgery. Even if
they do, there are the usual risks of surgery to consider, and there is no
guarantee that surgery will not simply make the scar look worse. So, careful
consideration of the pros and cons is vital.
The above is not necessarily
an exhaustive list of your options for scar treatments, depending on your
circumstances and the nature of your scarring. However, it will hopefully
provide you with some inspiration as you consider the possibilities.
Here at RECOVA, we are proud to make available
an extensive range of scar treatments that have won the approval of plastic
surgeons and dermatologists around the world, and that are greatly trusted by
our own customers. So why wait any longer to browse our online store, while
also taking advantage of our next-day delivery service?
