What to check on the cement bag?

by D cruz vaz Writer

Cement is the primary material when it comes to the construction of a home. The base of the construction withstands the whole weight of the house so it must be strong enough. And the durability of the home depends on the strength of the cement.

There are a number of cement manufacturers available but always go for the best one as it is about building a strong home for your loved ones. So, just be aware before going for cement because the cement bags delivered to the construction site may be duplicated. A few steps of caution may go a long way ensuring that the cement is an authentic product and reducing the chances of duplicate low-quality cement bags.

Duplicate cement hampers the life span of the structure made with love and affection. So, it is recommended one needs to do a proper checking of the basic specifications of the cement before purchasing it. You must check the information that is printed on a standard cement bag.

Just simply look for the printed information on a standard cement bag at the time of buying or receiving the cement-

  1. Check the manufacturer’s name and the registered trademark.

  2. You would find relevant ISI marks printed on cement bags in black colour.

  3. ‘Ordinary Portland Cement, 53 Grade ’ ordinary Portland Cement, 53-S Grade or Portland Pozzolana Cement is written on the cement bags.

  4. Net quantity of cement in kg i.e. 25 Kg, 50 Kg etc.

  5. The Brand of the cement is important. Therefore, opt for the best cement brand in India.

  6. Check the MRP and the address of the cement manufacturers.

  7. Lookout for words like ‘Use no Hooks’ or the symbol describing it.

  8. Don’t miss out on the batch/control unit number in terms of the week, month and year of packing of the cement bags.

  9.  Look for IS code numbers printed on the cement bags. i.e. if the cement is of OPC 53 grade cement, “IS-12269-1987” is printed on the cement bags and if your cement bags are Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC), “IS 1489-1991” is printed on the bags.

  10. Check the colour of the cement which should be uniform. If we talk about the ideal colour of the cement, it is normally grey having a light greenish shade. So, what the cement colour indicates? It is the presence of excess clay or lime in the cement.

  11. Buy the cement from trusted company retail stores.

  12. Look out for the proper stitching of the cement bag so that it doesn't appear to be a duplicate cement as it ensures the cement is original.

  13.  Watch out for the condition of the bags and store them in a moisture-free area in a cement store.
