by Shafqat M. Content Marketing Head

Business card printing is still very much in use today. With organizations encouraging their employees to establish new connections in the business world, the demand for business cards has never been so high. But, professionals are often faced with the basic question regarding its size. What is the standard size of business cards, they ask?

What Information to Print on a Business Card?

But before we go into that let's first try to understand what information should be printed on a business card. Normally it's supposed to carry your contact information, the address of your business, and the company website.  The designation is also important for people to know who they're contacting. In a way, a designation establishes your authority. And to add to the visual appeal of business cards, it's important to add a logo.

So expectedly you'd want a business card to have enough size to accommodate without overcrowding all the requisite information. Therefore, what a standard business card size ideally means is for it to have minimal dimensions, not too small and not too large, but sufficient for printing all the details mentioned above.

In the UK

We asked a professional business card printer in London, UK, about the standard business card size and we found it’s 85mm x 55mm. In fact, the standard size in inches in the UK is 3.35” x 2.17” and in pixels, it’s 1005px x 651px.

Similarly, in the US, 3.5” x 2” (inches) is the standard business card size. Or 89mm x 51mm in millimeters.

What Should Be the Business Card Size in Pixels?

Now many professionals like photographers need custom-printed business cards that are eye-catching. In other words, they need business cards that are of the highest quality in terms of resolution. That’s why they often inquire about size in pixels.

It’s strongly recommended that when you design a business card, whether in Photoshop, Canva or any other program, ensure that it’s at least printed in 300 PPI. This way the finished size of your 300 PPI business card would be 1050 pixels x 600 pixels.

Why Does Business Card Size Matter?

  • Yes, of course, it matters. For example, if your business card isn’t of a standard size, it won’t fit into your wallet perfectly. As a result, it would get damaged at corners.

  • Standard size on the other hand would ensure it comes in the same size as your credit or debit card, hence fitting perfectly in your pocket as well as the wallet.

  • Moreover, if you want your business should fit perfectly into your cardholder, the standard business card size is an absolute necessity.

In short, it depends on the printed size of your business card whether it’d have damaged corners or not and whether it’d fit into your business card holder and wallet. It’s owing to this information that you should always look for the standard business card size, which is 88mm x 55mm in the UK when printing one for your employees.
