Porcelain veneers are one way to capture the smile you want. With this type of cosmetic dentistry, it will help improve your smile by fixing teeth that are chipped, broken or even missing. It will also make teeth that are worn down disappear as well as fixing a smile where there are some teeth unevenly spaced.

Before you are able to have a porcelain veneer put in place, you will first need to meet with your local cosmetic dentist. Here, they will go over how the veneers are made, how they are used to make repairs and how to care for them long term as well as to how much you will be expected to pay for aset of veneers.

First Step:

The first step in obtaining veneers is to get the diagnosis and treatment plan in motion. It will require a sit down meeting where you will be asked a number of questions in regards to your ultimate goal. There are always going to be some limitations put in place surrounding the boundaries of the teeth and the veneers and what will be advised against when having the veneers put in.

Second Step:

The next step is to prepare your teeth and mouth for the veneers. You will have about ½ mm of enamel scraped from the teeth in order to create a veneer to lay over top of the existing tooth. You will generally be placed under a local anesthetic in order to create a numbing sensation. When working on your teeth, the dentist is going to create a general mold or model of your teeth in order to create the perfect veneer. It can take up to a few weeks to have your veneers made.

Thirdly, the bonding of the veneer is what will make the veneer to hold permanently to the tooth or teeth. The dentist is going to temporarily attach the tooth to the veneer to see how it fits and looks before adding the cement to the teeth. The color of the veneer can be adjusted at this point or shortly after applying the veneers. You will have your teeth cleaned, etched and polished in order to create a rough patch for the veneer to hold to. A special cement will then be used to adhere the veneer to the tooth.

There are a number of advantages to using the veneers. One of those advantages is that the veneer will look very similar to the actual tooth. It will help transform the overall appearance of your smile and this will increase your level of confidence as well. When you’re done, the smile you always wanted will be there knocking to be let out.
