What is use of Robots file?
A "robots.txt" file tells search engines whether they can access and therefore crawl parts of our site. This file, which must be defined as "robots.txt", is placed in the root directory of our site.
The address of our robots.txt file is-
User-agent :*
Disallow : /images/
Disallow : /search/
Disallow:/url/
All compliant search engine bots (denoted by the wildcard * symbol) shouldn't access and crawl the content under /images/ or any URL whose path begins with /search. We may not want certain pages of our site crawled because they might not be useful to users if found in a search engine's search results. If we do want to prevent search engines from crawling our pages, Google Webmaster Tools has a friendly robots.txt generator to help us create this file.
And if you want to check whether your SEO Company using robots file or not. You can check by www.yoursitename.com/robots.txt
The robots.txt method is one of the most advised methods of search engine optimization, as it gives the webmaster complete control over the search engine bots. In case your website has too much graphical content in the form of image files, flash files etc. it becomes difficult for the bots to crawl within your website. In such a case, you can write a code in the robots.txt file to exclude such graphics files and concentrate more on the keywords and content.
It is also helpful in situations where you just want to test the performance of your website after designing and coding it, but don't want it to be indexed by the search engines. In addition to this, it also helps you protect your website from the malign web crawlers, which are in no way helpful for search engine optimization, but badly affect the loading times of your website.
So make sure to ask about robots file before hiring any SEO Services company in Delhi.
