What is the significance of Arafah?
The day of ‘Arafah falls right in the middle of Hajj. In fact, the
Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Al-Hajj ‘Arafa” that the essence of the pilgrimage is the
day of ‘Arafah. It is standing on that plane when the Hujjaj will be closer to
Allah Subhanahu Wa’ta’ala than at any other time. It is the time of the
responding of the Creator of the heavens and earth for the prayers. It is a
purification being in that field and it’s also a time when the Prophet (s.a.w)
addressed his companions and the world with the message that will stay to the
day of judgement — of equality, of justice and of freedom.
Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah is
prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and he said to his companions and he said to
Muslims to the day of Ressurection that fasting on ‘Arafah, it will make an
expiation for the sins of the previous year and the coming year. So, it is a
very important time to abstain for Allah Subhanahu Wa’ta’ala to come close to
the Creator. The purification of the body, the purification of the mind in the
best time and for those on Hajj, it is the best place in the world to be.
For
those outside of the pilgrimage, we also gain the blessings of this sacred time
to come closer to Allah Azzawajal than at any other point than we possibly can.
