What is the Mazda CX-5 SUV all about?

The Mazda CX-5 is a five-door compact crossover SUV first produced in 2012 and was one of the first to adopt Mazda's SKYACTIV technology system and the KODO – Soul of Motion language.

The CX-5 is built on the same platform as the Mazda3 and the Mazda6 with stiff and lightweight engineering that incorporates the new engines and transmission resulting in better fuel consumption and reduced emission levels. 


First Generation


The CX-5 is fitted with a 2.0L SkyActiv-G PE-VPS inline-4 petrol engine producing power of 121 KW (165 HP) at 6000 rpm with a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) and fuel consumption of 6L/100KM (39.2 mpg); and 2.2L SkyActiv-D SH-VPTS inline-4 turbocharged diesel engine producing power of 110 KW (150 HP) at 4500 rpm with a top speed of 203 km/h (126 mph) and fuel consumption of 4.6L/100KM (51.1 mpg). The engines were paired with SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic or manual transmission and were available in front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.


Interior and Technology 


The CX-5 standard features include Mazda's i-Stop which is a start/stop system, a 5.8–inch touch screen with Bluetooth and sat-nav, High Beam Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, and iDrive. The CX-5 has a long wheelbase with a comfortable cabin and plenty of legroom on both front and rear seats. And also comes with a 403L boot space that can be expanded when the rear seats are folded flat. 


Second Generation


The second-generation Mazda CX-5 was introduced in 2017 with new features, designs, and an added engine, with a 2.5L SKYACTIV-G PY-VPS inline-4 petrol engine, apart from 2.0L SKYACTIV-G petrol and 2.2L SKYACTIV-D diesel engines with SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic or manual transmission. 


Interior and Technology


The cabin offered a practical and stylish interior with comfortable seats, roomy rear seats for adult passengers, and can fit in comfortably. The boot space has been increased to 39L from the previous model and also comes with a 7.0-inch infotainment display, switchgear, remote-controlled power liftgate, auto-leveling LED headlamps, and a full head-up display. 


The CX-5 is equipped with standard features including adaptive cruise control, rear proximity sensors, automatic emergency braking, rear-view camera, and G-vectoring or stability control feature. The other grade level comes with iStop / Start, cruise control, lane departure system, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition system, and navigation.
