by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail. Many also deem that Allah lives there
and it’s the House of Allah leading misinterpretation that Black Stone is the
Kaaba.
However, it is so not
true. Black Stone is situated on the southeast corner of the Kaaba.
Religious Significance for Hajj Pilgrimage
Its religious significance lies in the fact that is highly
regarded as a focal point for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Every year around 2
million or more pilgrims travel to Makkah to attain Kaaba’s fortune. It means
performing the fifth pillar of Islam. It’s the holiest place and guidance to
all mankind. Muslims who can afford their travel and return back are entitled
to Hajj obligation once in a life.
Some believe that Prophet Adam was the first one to build it
while the majority of worshippers consider Prophet Ibrahim to first
build/rebuild this Holy Shrine.
Story Behind Building Kaaba
“And (remember) when Abraham and (his son) Ishmael
were raising the foundations of the House (the Kaba at Mecca), (saying), ‘Our
Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily, You are the All-Hearer, the
All-Knower’” (Quran 2:127)
Prophet Ibrahim built it to symbolize worship of one Allah.
After some time, disbelievers put certain other idols inside it and Ibrahim
with his son cleaned the House of Allah made it free from blasphemers.
He told the people of that time that Allah doesn’t live here. He is everywhere to be found and feel. After the death of Ibrahim, it was re-built again during Kusayi’s time. Every year, after the Hajj pilgrimage, the place is closed for approx 1 month and on the day of Ashura; Kaaba is washed from Zamzam water. After the wash, the new Ghilaf (Kiswa) is brought to cover the Kaaba for next year.
The Quran tells the Muslims,
“Turn then thy face towards the sacred mosque and
wherever ye be turn your faces towards that part” (2:139-144)
Structure of Kaaba
It has a unique structure. Its height is about 60 ft. wide
and surrounded by the largest mosque (Masjid al-Haram). The outer of the building
is cover with a beautiful black silk cloth with a touch of embossed Quranic
verses in gold. Zam-zam well and Al-Safa, Al-Marwa hills are the prominent
sites near the Kaaba who are significant in the virtue. Prophet Ibrahim used to
pray in plain memorials and made sure whosoever enter is safe.
Pilgrimage to the House of Allah is the holy duty for every
Muslim who can afford.
