Medical tourism refers to travelling to other countries for medical care and treatment. A large amount of people travel from less developed countries in which medical treatment is not at par with other countries of the world, to other developed countries or developing countries where they can get better treatment at affordable rates. The most common procedures that people undergo on medical tourism trips include cosmetic surgery, dentistry, fertility related problems and heart surgery.

There are many factors why people prefer medical tourism. Some of the include high cost of health care in their home country as in US, or they have to wait for a long time to get the proper treatment as in UK, availability of cheap travel rates due to advancement in transportation technology as also the continuous struggle of engineers in providing medical technology at cheaper rates.
A large number of countries provide medical tourism and the competition between them has grown over time. Some of the eminent countries include India, Brazil, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan.

India is one of the important countries in the medical tourism industry as it provides health care services with technology that can be praised worldwide. Medical Tourism in India is of the top choices when it comes to medical tourism, the primary reason it reduces the treatment bills by sixty five to ninety percent as compared to the United States. Along with quality and affordability of healthcare service, India offers tourists with its beautiful scenery and architecture molded in its magnificent culture. In India, medical travel brings a mix of pleasure, luxury, and quality healthcare for medical travelers. Additionally, in India, private hospitals which are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) and Joint Commission International (JCI), reduces the waiting time as the treatment begins as soon as the patient is diagnosed.

Everything in this world has two aspects and so does medical tourism. However easy and economical it may sound, but there are always some risk associated with it. The risks varies from country to country and the methods of treatment they have adopted, but some risks are general that are to be kept in mind before taking up of medical tourism.
