What is Experiential Marketing?

Experiential marketing is a type of marketing that a brand can use to immerse its consumers with memorable experiences as a way of engaging with them. Unlike other marketing techniques it can be a powerful way to not only engage with consumers but also create a buzz around your brand causing hype to spread through word of mouth or on social media. The main purpose of experiential marketing is to create opportunities for consumers to interact or engage with your brand in a real life or tangible way.


There are many examples of experiential marketing including pop-up shops or appearances at certain events selling or giving out product samples. PR stunts can be another example. Also, interactive experiences such as games, virtual or augmented reality.


When people have a great or memorable experience, they are likely to post it on their social media accounts resulting in a growth of organic shares or mention it to their friends spreading brand awareness through word of mouth. If the experience is successful it could leave them with a long-lasting favourable view of the brand that could stay in their mind in the future when they make any purchasing decisions.


Experiential marketing campaigns can require a sizeable investment and so is really important that its success can be measured. Some of the most common ways of measuring the success is through social media hashtags, social media followers, mailing list sign-ups, new customers and generated sales. Surveys can also be used to measure the attitudes of consumers towards your brands after experiential marketing campaigns.


Brand alignment is important, which is why you should always consider making your marketing campaign fit in with the main value of your band while at the same time creating a positive lasting impression on consumers.
