What is Digital Marketing and E-commerce?

Digital marketing is the promotion of goods and services online using creative tools like social media, digital PR, search optimization, online reputation, online advertising, e-mail marketing etc to create and improve business prospects online. E-commerce on the other hand is the sale of goods and services using various electronic mediums and platforms like auto teller machines (ATM’s), electronic banking, e-billing, e-money transfer etc, internet marketing etc. The common medium is that they both operate online.

     

Today globally more than 75% businesses have an online presence or have at least engaged the services of online marketing. This represents a huge potential in terms of new market share, demographics, marketing techniques and ideology as well as improved and increased product and service penetration in shorter time frames. However, there are times when there is mixed attribution to the two terms i.e. digital marketing and e-commerce, though interrelated it makes a faster and easier adaptation to their tremendous benefits and advantages prolonged. Mostly, though they both operate online and that sets the tone for the discussion of their possible minute but significant and important differences.

Major and Minor Differences of Digital Marketing and E-commerce

1-Whereas digital marketing is the promotion and sale of goods and services online using a variety tools like search optimization and social media, ecommerce is actual sale and exchange of goods and services using electronic means.

 2-E-commerce applies a variety of electronic platforms that are legitimately accessible to the customer 24/7 and enhances faster business turnover, digital marketing sticks to the online route of creating faster customer engagement.

3-In conceptual terms, E-commerce is a wider and deeper term than digital marketing. Infact, digital marketing is a constituent of E-commerce’s overall online and offline electronic marketing approach e.g. ATMs, fax machines and credit cards. This route may require for instance like credit cards swiping at pre-installed secure mediums access to funds and convenient shopping.\
