What is Credit Card Tokenization?

Credit card tokenization occurs when a payment processor receives a credit card number from a customer and creates a unique token that represents that number. The payment processor then stores the tokenized credit card number instead of the actual credit card number. When a customer makes a purchase, the payment processor uses the tokenized credit card number to process the payment. If a hacker manages to steal the tokenized credit card number, they would not be able to use it because it is not associated with an actual credit card number.
