What is Active Release Technique?

Active Release Technique or simply ART is used for treating the soft tissues of your body by combining movement and manipulation. This technique is around for over three decades and it is known to be very effective. ART entails the identification, isolation and targeting of the affected areas so that the scarred tissue can be broken from that part. It promotes blood circulation and heal-up the injuries. The technique can be used for treating problems with your ligaments, nerves, tendons etc.

The technique was first used by a well-renowned chiropractor called Dr. P. Michael Leahy for treating the disorders of soft tissues in athletes. A number of healthcare providers like the massage therapists; physical therapists etc. have been trained up ever since then because the technique is very effective in treating headaches, back pains and many other symptoms.

How the Technique Works?

Active Release Therapy works by breaking up the adhesions that are scar tissues that are formed when muscles and connective tissues get injured. When the scar tissues bind up with muscles, the flexibility gets limited leading to the pain and stiffness in the joints and muscles.

Sometimes adhesions can trap the nerves and with the help of ART that adhesions can be broken which enable your nerves to move freely again. During this session, the healthcare provider feels the area and locates the scar-tissues. They will use the technique for isolating and targeting that particular area so that the scar tissues can be broken and a proper blood circulation can heal the area.
