What is a Grass Strimmer and how does it work?
A Grass Strimmer also called a Strimmer, weed-whacker, or weed eater is a highly flexible piece of equipment fitted with a flexible monofilament line for cutting grass in place of the conventional cutting blades. These monofilament lines are highly effective for cutting more than grass as they take on the toughest weeds, brambles, and brushes on even and uneven ground and also steep terrains. The machine mainly consists of a cutting head, a shaft and a handle and is either powered by a petrol engine present in the structure or by a cable that is attached to power mains.
We also have several aliases for Grass Strimmers, namely Whipper Snipper, line trimmer, hedge trimmer and weed whips. The Strimmer works on the theory that if a line is turned sufficiently fast enough, it will be held out of its housing or rotating wheel and become stiff due to centrifugal force. The force of the turning action will make it stiffer, and the nylon even if it is in round sections, would cut through grass, woody plans, brambles and tough tuft of grasses that are found in various tough terrains. Monofilament lines are sometimes shaped like a star and are extruded whilst cutting, and they are able to cut through even the toughest material. The monofilament lines effectively replace the disks for employing in tough jobs.
The monofilament line is wound by hand into the reel before the task is even begun, which leaves the ends extending from the housing of the reel. The motor turns the reel head and the horizontally extending line is then swung over the plants or grass to be trimmed. The height of cutting is controlled by the operator and grass can be effectively cut even to ground level quite easily. The monofilament line is quickly replaced by ejecting some from the reel, as the old one gets worn out or broken. Some of the latest models also sport an “auto feed” function where the line length is controlled by the cutter with the rest remaining in the line guard which keeps the length within the effective range of the motor.
New lines are more effective in operation due to their heavier weight. The trigger placed in the handle efficiently controls the speed of the spinning hub, and the operator can either increase or decrease the speed according to requirements. A revolutionary grass cutter by the name of The Decimator has come upon the horizon and is quite devastating for overgrown gardens as it can demolish grass, brush, bush, small woody plants, stumps and brambles easily. This new grass trimming accessory can be fitted onto any brush cutter or Strimmer that uses blade heads.
