How to Simplify an Unsettling Experience for Your Parents

The trick to persuading a senior to see a new doctor is to create a positive aura around the new doctor. You may have chosen the doctor based on some good review, so do your best to get it to the patient’s ears and if possible get a few other family members to chip and talk positive about the new doctor. It may be surprising how easily you can persuade a senior to do what you want if you ploys you would use to persuade a child.

Once your parents hear good thing about the new doctor sooner or later they will be inclined to consider giving in to your pleas. Sometimes it helps if the new physician (or someone from their office) makes a call to your parent and talks him into come for a visit.

Setting Up a Surprise Visit sans the Surprise

Surprises are fine until they are too much for the seniors to handle. You can consider making a plan to take your parent for a surprise visit to the physician. This is how you do it. Begin by giving the impression that you are about to take your mom or dad (whoever needs the check-up) and set it somewhere near the new physicians chamber. On your way to the lunch/mall/movie hall (or wherever you were planning to take your parents), stop by the chamber and point it out. Don’t sound fake, put in some effort to show as if you are genuinely surprised. Say something like ‘since we are already here, lets step in and pay the physician a visit, then we can go has that awesome lunch we were planning!”

Remember the Times When You Were Adamant

Don’t lose your temper if your parents are adamant because there were days when you were surely a pin in the back of your parents, now it’s time you show the same amount of care and dedication to take them to the physician. Sometimes some things have to be done, no matter what it takes; if everything else fails try to get a Doctor at Home for your parents. That way they don’t have to leave home and they can get the necessary medical attention too.
