What Happens When a Scammer Targets an Innocent PC USER?

by Komal Bhatia SEO

Each one of us has experienced calls from telemarketers that, obviously, interrupt our lives at unpropitious times. Moreover, receiving an unexpected phone call from an unknown person could be more annoying for you. Especially, when the person talking from the other side claims that your computer is infected with viruses, but it can be fixed in return for a heavy price. It could be worst to know that the caller is a scammer pretending to call from a reputed tech support company, like EasyTechy UK.

Does this sounds familiar? Well, most of the telephone tech support scams follow similar pattern. The computer user receives a call from an international or blocked number, and the caller (as usual) pretends to talk as a certified tech support agent who has good hands on detecting and eliminating virus or spyware or malware from PCs working on any platform. As these callers are well-trained fakers, they implement smart tactics to trap technology product owners by narrating stories on how viruses can destruct your device and reduce its efficiency to zero. They claim to troubleshoot your device and fix the so-called errors in return of a fairly service fee. Most of the scammers demand you to make payment via online payment system or credit card. They scare you too much that there is no way left to rescue the trouble, other than accepting their offer. Many PC users are innocent, and they are easily targeted by the scammers to execute their bad intentions.

There is no end to these scams. However, most of the certified tech support specialists recommend to buy technical service plans only from the authorized service providers. Even if these scammers are growing and getting bolder, we think there is no way to finish it all. But on top of everything, one can take help of useful tips to avoid telephone tech support scams. If you get a fake call claiming to be from a reputed online IT support agency, ensure you:

1.       Don’t take interest in any software or services, and never think about purchasing them.

2.       Enquire about subscription fees in return of the services. If yes, hang up the phone call.

3.       Do not give complete control of your device to the unknown stranger unless it is confirmed that the caller is a legitimate tech support agent. Remember, the person on the other side of the call can only talk and convince, YOU are the one to take final decision.

4.       Note down the contact details (if displayed any) and all other information promptly, and report to the local authority.

5.       Never share your credit card details with the tech support agent.

Always remember that scammers aim to steal your confidential data or rob your money under the name of technical support services. So, do not trust any unknown callers unless you verify the background. In case, you urgently require IT support services to fix your device, look for a legitimate service provider via online resources.
