What do you mean by Ovulation?

This is described as the phase during the time of menstruation that makes the inclusion of the egg or the ovum getting released from the ovary of the female, in its matured state. Such happenings mainly occur during the middle of the menstrual cycle.

The entire process of ovulation is potentially controlled with the help of a tiny gland located in the region of the brain termed as pituitary gland & this gland is actually controlled by the hypothalamus. This tries to send the indications towards the pituitary gland for the purpose of secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) & follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Such changes when introduced abruptly in the hormonal levels help for the process of enhancing the ovulation. It is said to mainly occur among the 10th& the 19th day of the menstrual cycle & during this time, the scientists explain that for a woman, this forms to the most fertile period.

PHASES:

1. Periovulatory or follicular phase: This phase is said to commence on the initial day of the menstrual cycle & is continued for approximately a fortnight. In this phase, the hypothalamus starts stimulating the pituitary gland for releasing FSH. This leads for stimulation for developing the follicles in the ovarian region. The dominant one grows in size & causes the production of the egg & thereby leads for the elevation of estrogen levels in the human body.

2. Ovulatory phase: Here, in this phase, it leads for the discharge of the egg from the dominant follicle. Increase in the estrogen levels causes the stimulation in pituitary gland for secreting LH. This in turn leads for the developed follicle for the discharge of the egg.

3. Post-ovulatory or luteal phase: This is followed after ovulation wherein the emplty follicle gets altered to corpus luteum & starts secreting progesterone hormone. The rupture of the lining of uterine wall leads for bleeding.
