What do you know about Non-Surgical Nose Thread Lift?

A surgical rhinoplasty was popular in the past because that was the only way to correct the nose and attain a sharper, defined nose. People used to shun away from surgical rhinoplasty of the long downtime and the potential surgical risks.

Fast forward to today, a ‘nose job’ no longer means having to undergo a surgical procedure. A 30-minute non-surgical nose thread lift is all you need to get a more defined, lifted nose.

However, before committing to a non-surgical nose thread lift, here are some burning questions you probably have. A popular medical aesthetic doctor in Singapore, Dr. Siew Tuck Wah, Medical Director of Radium Medical Aesthetics is here to answer them.

Non-Surgical Nose Thread Lift. What is it?

Non-surgical nose thread lift uses special absorbable threads made of polydioxanone (PDO) that are 100% bio-compatible with the human body.

Some people have ill-defined noses which lack height and projection. Non-surgical nose thread lift treatment addresses this problem. PDO threads are inserted horizontally into the nose bridge and vertically into the nose tip. The threads that are inserted into the nose act as a scaffolding structure which helps to contour and shape the nose to the desired state.

Can The Result Last?

The PDO threads have been scientifically proven to be fully absorbed by the body after 6 to 8 months after the treatment. Because of the creation of collagen and tissue fibroblasts, the nose will stay in its lifted position for another 8 to 12 months.

If the treatment is repeated about 9 to 12 months after the initial treatment, you can expect the result to be longer-lasting, resulting in tighter skin, enhancing the nose’s definition and contour. With regular stimulation and production of collagen in the nose, some permanent lifting can be seen.

Choice of your Doctor is Important

Choosing the right doctor to perform the treatment is important.

As compared to dermal filler treatments, a non-surgical nose thread lift is more straightforward. However, there are still some factors that will determine if you will leave the clinic with a more defined, lifted nose or a botched job.

Make a list of questions to ask the doctor during the consultation. Make sure that your questions should be guided by the following:

·         Request to see some before and after pictures of his past cases so you know what to expect and his skills and techniques

·         Any complications so far and how he handled them

·         Types of threads he will use

·         Number of threads he will use on your nose

·         Post-treatment protocol and service support

It is not uncommon that many doctors use short, smooth threads to perform nose thread lift. It gives very poor results because they are thin and smooth. Thicker threads with anchors (known as cogs) are essential for effective, longer-lasting lift. On the other hand, threads that are too thick may cause permanent scarring and trauma to the nose.

An experienced doctor who has performed many nose thread lift treatments is likely to ensure a great outcome. It takes an experienced doctor to determine the exact number of threads required to achieve the desired outcome.

Is There a Risk of Blindness After the Treatment?

Nose thread lift treatment are done by inserting a blunt cannula to achieve the desired height and projection. The risk of blindness from non-surgical thread lift is almost non-existent.

The same cannot be said for nose fillers. Even with many years of experience injecting nose fillers, many doctors are very cautious about performing nose fillers in case of vascular complication such as skin necrosis and blindness.

Make sure that if you are interested in seeking nose filler treatment as an alternate treatment to nose thread lift, go to an experienced doctor.

Perfect Nose?

A ‘perfect’ nose is one that blends in well with your other facial features. “There is no formula for the perfect nose. However, based on my years of experience in medical aesthetics, I have devised some proportions that best represent the aesthetic ideal of an Asian man or woman.” says Dr. Siew.

Below is a general guide of what is deemed as a ‘perfect’ nose.
